Mutiny!

Fletcher Christian - Has sailed with Bligh prior to coming aboard the Bounty as a midshipman, quickly promoted to Acting Lieutenant. Popular with crew. His character has the biggest "arc." Prior to Tahiti he was intent on distinguishing himself as a naval officer. After immersing himself in the Tahitian culture he can not longer tolerate Bligh's insults. His first plan is to desert in a raft, but encourgaed by the crew, and midshipman Young, he takes the ship.

Lieutenant William Bligh - Sailed with the infamous Captain Cook. His appointment to command the Bounty results from a business relationship with a merchant slave-trader. The mission of the Bounty is to transplant breadfruit plants from Tahiti to the West Indies to feed the plantation slaves. He is a skilled navagator, liberal with the lash, devoted to his mission.

Thomas Hayward - A midshipman that defers to Bligh's authority and leaves with him in the launch.

Edward Young - Mentioned, but not yet a speaking part, he instigates the mutiny and later (not yet in the script) a racially based massacre on Pitcairn Island.

Bob Tinkler - Midshipman, goes with Hayward to the launch.

John Smith - Bligh's personal servant.

Charles Churchill - Master at Arms. Christian's strongest ally with the crew during the mutiny.

John Fryer - Ship's master, disliked by all. He goes in the launch not so much to support Bligh but because the muntineers don't want or trust him aboard.

Roger Byam - Midshipman. A fictional character invented by Norhoff as the protagonist/narrator.

George Steward - Midshipman. Stays on the Bounty, mainly because there is no more room on the launch.

Matthew Thompson - Ablebodied seaman, under Churchill supports the mutiny.

Matthew Quintal - same status as Thompson.

M. Samuel - Ship's clerk, goes with Bligh.

Thomas Burkitt - Like Thompson and Quintal.

Thomas Ellison - Like Burkitt.

John Sumner - Like Ellison.

William Purcell - Ship's carpenter. Skilled but difficult. Fletcher is inclined to keep him on board but the crew will not have him. Like Fryer, he is not a Bigh supporter but has no choice.

David Nelson. Botanist. Goes on the launch.
